A Bit About the Empty Nesters Class

The Empty Nesters Sunday school class was started in 1992, when then associate minister Donna Whitehead asked GG and Amoret Cain to head-up a new adult Sunday school class. As GG tells the somewhat funny story, Donna promised this would be for no more than 4 weeks – that she had someone in the wings that would be the full-time teacher. 28 years later (and counting), GG is still the primary teacher for our class.

Our class is a wonderful class of adults aged 60 and older. If not the largest Sunday school class at Custer Road, we are one of the largest. We enjoy monthly socials, which more often than not include food (HA) – and our class is very mission focused – we always have been.

While GG teaches about 50% of the Sunday school lessons, a number of members of our class also teach during the year the other 50% of the time. We do not follow a set curriculum, but rather, we leave it to the individual teachers to develop their own material. Over the years, this has resulted in a wide variety of lesson topics – topics that are always thought provoking and stimulating.

We welcome anyone who might be interested to visit our class and enjoy the Christian fellowship the current members have come to value.

See you in Sunday school!

GG Cain
